What do the new announcements on lockdown mean for weddings in the UK?
Drunk at a wedding again. Dreams do come true.
Yesterday we had the long awaited announcements from the PM about our way out of lockdown.
There’s still some uncertainty with the specific dates, but I think the wedding industry will be broadly delighted with the prospects ahead for a fairly normal summer, or half at least.
A quick summary on the key dates below. As per 2020, suppliers are not counted towards the total guests allowed numbers.
12th April 2021 - Weddings of up to 15 guests allowed
17th May 2021 - Weddings of up to 30 guests allowed
21st June 2021 - All legal limits on social contact removed
These are all earliest possible dates subject to the criteria being matched to allow them to be enacted. There will be an announcement two weeks prior to each loosening of restrictions to confirm this.
So, normality from 21st June, we hope. I know a lot of couples may look to move from pre 21/06 dates to after, and this may be possible with a switch from a weekend to a weekday. In these days of endless working from home, no holidays and no concept of what day it even is, I suspect this will be a lot more normal than in other years. Wedding on a Tuesday? Why the hell not.
